The state of Colorado contains, within its borders, a wonderfully diverse landscape. This landscape consists of the high plains in the east, majestic mountain ranges running down its spine and desert areas in the west/southwest region. Of course, its the mountainous areas that really define the state and Colorado contains more 14,000+ ft peaks than any other state in the nation, including Alaska. Adding to all this scenic beauty are the bountiful lakes and rivers found amongst these high peaks. With all that beauty, it's no wonder that Colorado is home to four national parks...Rocky Mountain National Park (near Estes Park), Great Sand Dunes NP (near Alamosa), Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP (near Montrose) and Mesa Verde NP (near Cortez).
