If you like wide open spaces, Utah is the state for you. Over 80 percent of the state's population lives along the Wasatch Front centering around Salt Lake City. That leaves the remainder of the state largely uninhabited, particularly the southern half which is comprised of a beautiful high desert environment known as the Colorado Plateau. The southern desert is so beautiful that five national parks (Bryce Canyon, Zion, Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef) were designated to preserve it. That's the most of any state, with the exception of California. Add to that, the beautiful Wasatch and Uinta ranges to the north and its no wonder that tourism is such an important component of the state's economy.
