Guy Schmickle > Illuminated Double Arch - Arches National Park, Utah
Stock id #1652

Artist's Notes: Double Arch is one of the most fantastic arches found in Arches National Park, in my opinion. Trouble is, it doesn't receive light at either sunrise or sunset meaning it has to be shot under harsh lighting conditions with distracting shadows covering parts of the scene. My solution to this was to try and shoot it at night while illuminating the arch by light painting it with a spotlight to give the illusion that the formation was lit by campfire. I felt this final result succeeded in doing that fairly well. Note that the print of this image will show far more stars than are seen above as many were lost when downsizing to a web sized version.
