Guy Schmickle > Durango & Silverton Train Making An Autumn Run - San Juan Mountains, CO

Artist's Notes: The Durango & Silverton Narrow Guage Train winds its way through the Animas River Gorge enroute to Silverton, Colorado from Durango multiple times every day. It affords its riders the opportunity to see a beautiful section of the San Juan Mountains that the casual tourist can't see by automobile. I was able to photograph this popular tourist train in such a remote location by taking the special autumn photographer's train that is offered each year. This special run caters to photographers as there are several locations where you are allowed to get off the train to photograph it. Once dropped off, the train actually backs up to make a run through each predetermined scene. It's an incredible opportunity for photographers interested in shooting trains.
